Abstract

One of the oldest media created by humans, the map has its relevance reaffirmed in the era of digitalization, a phenomenon especially noticeable in the intense and varied uses of maps in mobile devices widespread in daily life. This work offers an overview of ways of thinking maps as media, from approaches influenced by the mathematical theory of communication or by post-structuralism, to a integrative perspective brought by media philosophy.
