Abstract

Focusing almost entirely on reading the book Crowds. The Stadium as a Ritual of Intensity, by Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht (2021), the text revisits aspects of the author’s work, examining some of its developments, recurrences, impasses and emphasis. On the one hand, it rediscovers traditional categories related to the perspective of the materialities of communication; on the other hand, it discovers important updates that root it in the troubled present we live in and that renew its connections with media studies and the sociology of mass communications.
